Chinese Civil Air Certification Boosts L-3’s International Presence
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has formally certified the L-3 Security and Detection Systems division to provide explosives screening systems in the world’s most populous nation. The certification covers specific S&DS products: the eXaminer 3DX®, Multi-View Tomography High Resolution (MVT-HR®), VIS 108®, and PX-M® systems.
Only a select few manufacturers of aviation screening products have received the prestigious CAAC certification. The award makes L-3 eligible to win significant civil aviation security contracts in China in the future.
L-3 also holds critical U.S. and British transportation authority certifications for particular explosives screening products and systems. “With certification in China, L-3 has established itself as the explosives screening manufacturer of choice for the world’s most important aviation markets,” said Thomas Ripp, president. “Obtaining certification from the CAAC further cements our position as the only company that can provide a full range of screening products for the aviation industry.”
L-3 technology already contributes to safer skies at major international air hubs elsewhere in the Asia Pacific region. The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore selected L-3 technology for explosives screening at Singapore Changi Airport with a purchase in excess of $58 million; South Korea’s Incheon International Airport in Seoul and Japan’s Tokyo-Narita International Airport also chose L-3 systems; and in Australia, L-3 MVT systems were installed in nine airport terminals during 2005.
