PassPort™
The PassPort™ explosives trace detection system automatically detects virtually any explosive. From newly created threats to previously documented substances, L-3’s landmark energetic material detection (EMD) technology safely indicates the presence of any explosive exhibiting an exothermic decomposition, including TATP, EGDN, NG, TNT, PETN, RDX, NC, nitrates and others. L-3’s proprietary EMD technology detects explosives based on their unique thermal characteristics— without using carrier gases or radioactive sources and without the need for a reference library.
Yielding the highest throughput rate in the industry for an explosives trace detection walk-through configuration, PassPort keeps traffic moving. PassPort’s direct contact design takes samples from hands, torso and feet—without the need for users to remove their shoes—enabling continuous traffic flow with no stopping or waiting.
Within seconds of a person exiting the system, results are provided and the next individual is immediately ready to be screened. The stand-alone, reduced-weight system (200kg/440lbs) makes the most of available space with a footprint slightly larger than a standard portal metal detector. Immediate benefits realized include significantly lower operating costs and an inherently safer product that does not require radioactive wipe testing and reference library updates for new or evolving explosive compounds. Additionally, PassPort does not require “clear-down” or “bake-out” time for system decontamination, ensuring maximum uptime. PassPort operates without frequent software updates, is ready for operation in less than five minutes and is easy for operators of any skill level to use. PassPort is currently under development and will be available later in 2008.
